It is recommended to go to the podiatrist when you suffer from pain or discomfort in the feet, especially if it is for a long time.

Some of the most common pathologies are:

  • Hallux Valgus
  • Mounted fingers
  • Claw toes
  • Hammer toes
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Talalgia
  • Bursitis
  • Calcaneal spur
  • Cavus foot
  • Flat foot
  • Ingrown nails

Hallux Valgus

It is a deformity of the first toe, deviating outward. The lump that is created is commonly known as a Bunion, which causes pain on the edge of the toe, and sometimes on the sole of the foot. This package also limits the use of footwear. It is mainly caused by a genetic predisposition but can also be caused by the use of inappropriate footwear. It is usually more common in women than in men.

Mounted fingers

It occurs when a toe is overlapped on another toe. The most common toe to be affected is the little finger, but it can also occur on the big or second toe. It is usually a hereditary pathology, but also due to the use of very tight shoes. It can affect anyone and all ages, even newborns.

Hammer toes and Claw toes

These are toe deformities that cause flexion of the toe joint (second, third and fourth most common) causing the toes to be claw-shaped instead of being stretched. The main cause is an imbalance in the muscles, tendons, or ligaments that keep the toes straight. It can also be due to wearing very narrow or short shoes. They cause pain in the fingertips, inflammation and the possibility of corns.

Metatarsalgia

Pain or inflammation of the metatarsal, which is located in the middle area of the sole of the foot and at the beginning of the toes. It is the area where the weight is most supported when walking or running. The most affected finger is usually the second. It can cause corns on the sole of the foot. It is usually more frequent in women and athletes.

Talalgia

Pain and / or inflammation in the heel. It occurs since it is the area of the foot where the impact with the ground is cushioned when performing a physical activity. It is very common for athletes to suffer from it.

Bursitis

Bursitis is inflammation of the synovial (fluid-filled) bursae that cushion bones, tendons, and muscles. In the foot, it usually occurs in the heel or at the base of the big toe, although it is more frequent in the shoulder, elbow or hip. They cause pain in the affected part, especially if it is touched or pressed. It usually appears due to repetitive movements in these areas.

Calcaneal spur

Spurs are calcifications and are caused by plantar fasciitis that has become chronic. It is due to the fact that the body accumulates calcium in damaged areas to recover the tissue, it can occur due to: being overweight, doing sports in an intense way, using inappropriate footwear or being standing for long periods. It causes intense pain in the area.

Cavus foot

Foot deformity that consists of raising the plantar arch more than its normal shape. Therefore, it causes the supporting weight to be concentrated in the heel area and in the metatarsal area. It has its origin from a neurological component and a muscular affection.

Flatfoot

Deformity of the foot that consists of the flattening of the plantar arch, causing the entire sole of the foot to touch the ground. It does not usually cause pain, but it can affect the ankles and knees, causing an alteration in the alignment of the legs.

Ingrown nails

Pathology that occurs when the nail enters the skin of the finger, causing pain and inflammation. It commonly affects the big toe. Prevention is essential for these cases, with the use of suitable footwear and good hygiene and cutting of the toenails.
